The records of Wende Road can be traced back to the Song Dynasty. \”Book of the Later Han·Geography\” states: \”Panyu County is named after Fanshan Yushan.\” Fanshan is located in the Sun Yat-sen Archives on today\’s Wende Road. The original site of Yushan is in the First Palace of Wende Road today. During the period when the Southern Han Dynasty established Guangzhou as the capital, Yushan was leveled to build the Ligong Garden. Later, the Song army captured the city and burned the palace to ashes. During the Qingli period of the Song Dynasty, the imperial court built the Guangfu Academy on the basis of the ruins of the Southern Han Dynasty Palace. Its scale continued to expand throughout the dynasties. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, the Guangfu Academy had become \”the number one scholar in Lingnan.\” Today\’s Zhongshan Literature Museum, Shiyi Palace, and Wende Road Primary School were all part of the Guangfu Academy at that time.

The predecessor of Wende Road was Fuxue East Street in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was named because it was located to the east of Guangfu Academy. When the road was built in 1918, Fuxue East Street was widened into a 15-meter road. Because there was Wendeli on the east side, it was named Wende Road. This is the distribution center for calligraphy and painting in Guangzhou, the largest mounting shop, and many ancient book bookstores are located here. Various Chinese paintings, calligraphy, and oil paintings can be seen along the road. In the store, you can see literati making impromptu paintings at any time.
