Honda and Acura are reportedly expanding their focus on CarPlay by introducing support for smart garage door openers in their respective CarPlay apps.
Currently, CarPlay integrates with HomeKit to present garage door information and control options. However, what this new feature from Honda and Acura does is bring CarPlay to smart garage doors that aren\’t even HomeKit compatible.
To this end, Honda is partnering with Chamberlain Group’s MyQ Connected Garage service.
While there are dedicated HomeKit garage door accessories on the market, AutoBlog notes that integration with MyQ means many people will be able to take advantage of this new feature without having to purchase any additional hardware.
Garage door functions are managed through the HondaLink and AcuraLink CarPlay apps, both available through the App Store. Most notably, you can set up a geofence and it will intelligently show you notifications via CarPlay to open or close the garage door based on your current location.
