Reporters recently learned from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology that the mandatory national standards for electric bicycles have been officially released after revision, which will provide people with safer and more practical travel tools.

strong>It will be implemented on September 1, 2025, and the old version of the standard (GB 17761-2018) will be replaced.

The new standards released this time

• Strengthen the fire retardant requirements for non-metallic materials;

• Clarify the requirements for electric bicycles The total mass of plastics used should not exceed 5.5% of the total vehicle mass;

•Added requirements for low-speed running torque of the motor;

•Improved the battery pack, controller, limiter Anti-tampering requirements of the speed controller;

•Increased braking performance requirements;

•Increased the upper limit of the vehicle mass of electric bicycles using lead-acid batteries from 55kg to 63kg;

•New Added requirements for corporate quality assurance capabilities and product consistency;

•Require electric bicycles to have Beidou positioning, communication and dynamic safety monitoring functions;

•No longer mandatory for all models to be installed Pedal riding device;

•It is clarified that electric bicycles are encouraged to install rear-view mirrors;

•Manufacturers are required to clarify the recommended service life of electric bicycles and mark it on the nameplate and product certificate.

After the implementation of the new standards, it will reduce the hidden dangers and hazards of fire accidents, reduce the risk of traffic accidents, effectively prevent illegal modifications, improve the overall safety performance of vehicles, and better meet the daily needs of consumers.

It is understood that the new standards set an eight-month production transition period: On and before August 31, 2025, companies can either produce in accordance with the old standards or in accordance with New standard production; after September 1, 2025, all newly produced electric bicycles must meet the new standard requirements.

Vehicles that consumers have purchased that do not meet the new standards will not be forcibly eliminated. Local governments can speed up their replacement by using old-for-new policies based on local actual conditions.
