The word \”福\” on the door must be posted squarely! There is something special about the word \”福\”!

The Chinese New Year is coming soon, and when it’s time to post couplets, there is often an independent word “福” to post. However, I heard others say that the word “福” should be pasted upside down. What does it look like? See below:

The word \"福\" on the door must be posted squarely! There is something special about the word \"福\"!
1. The first situation where the character \”福\” is pasted upside down

The first situation when the character \”福\” is pasted upside down is Water tanks/trash cans/and boxes at home.

Paste blessing characters upside down on water tanks and trash cans;

Because the contents of water tanks and trash cans must be poured out from inside.

In order to avoid throwing away the blessings in the family, they put the word \”Fu\” on them. This approach is to cleverly use the homophone \”to\” of the word \”dou\”; use \”福来\” to offset \”福去\” to express the yearning for a better life.

2. The second situation in which the word \”福\” is pasted upside down

On a cabinet in the house. Cabinets are places where things are stored.

Pasting the word \”福\” upside down means blessing (also wealth). Will come all the way around the house/house and in cupboards.

The word \"福\" on the door must be posted squarely! There is something special about the word \"福\"!
3. The third situation of pasting the word \”福\” backwards

Special reminder to friends. In the following cases, the word \”福\” needs to be pasted upside down:

(1) If someone in the family unfortunately dies/or other disasters occur during the year. Such as: fire/car accident, etc. Friends who hope for good fortune can post the word \”福\” upside down;

(2) In the old society, the word \”福\” was deliberately posted upside down in order to gain popularity.

The specific situation is as follows:

There is a child in the family who is talented and can read. The family members deliberately pasted the word \”福\” upside down; they called the children and asked: \”What are we doing?\”Is our family photo copybook correct? The child said: \”The blessing has arrived.\” You can get a piece of candy; if the child unfortunately says something wrong, the adult will take out the straw paper prepared in advance. Wipe the child\’s mouth. Meaning: What you just said was not spoken. Not counting! And the word \”福\” will be corrected immediately afterwards.

4. The characters \”福\” on the door must be pasted upright.

Not all characters \”福\” must be pasted upside down. Especially on the door. The word \”福\” on the door. It always has to be genuine. Reminder: The word \”福\” on the door means \”welcoming blessing\” and \”receiving blessing\”.

And the door is the entrance and exit of the home. A solemn and respectful place; the word \”福\” is posted on it. It must be solemn/dignified/so it should be posted correctly. The famous writer Feng Jicai said: It is like this nowadays. Turn over the word \”福\” on the door. It will be top-heavy. Disrespectful. It\’s not funny; it goes against the spirit of China\’s \”door culture\” and \”year culture\”. If it is fun to post at will. Isn’t it too careless and rough to treat one’s own folk culture?

The word \"福\" on the door must be posted squarely! There is something special about the word \"福\"!
5. Textual research on sticking the word \”福\” upside down

The custom of sticking the word \”福\” upside down comes from the Qing Dynasty Prince Gong’s Mansion.

It is said that the story goes like this:

The butler wanted to please his master. The word \”福\” was written many times. Let people stick it on the warehouse and the gate of the palace. There is a family member who is illiterate. By mistake, the word \”福\” on the door was pasted upside down. The chief steward knelt on the ground and said servilely: Prince Gong has a long life, good fortune and great fortune. Now the great fortune has really arrived. It\’s a good sign. After hearing this, Fujin thought to himself: No wonder passers-by say that Prince Gong\’s palace is in ruins. The auspicious words are said a thousand times/The gold and silver increase by thousands; when I am happy, I reward the housekeeper and the family member who was unlucky. Afterwards, the custom of pasting the word \”福\” on it was spread from the official residences to ordinary people\’s homes; they all wanted passers-by or urchins to say a few words: Blessings have arrived/Blessings have arrived!

There is also a legend among the people that the word \”福\” is pasted upside down:

Zhu Yuanzhang, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, used the word \”福\” as a secret sign to prepare for murder. The kind-hearted Queen Ma tried to eliminate this disaster. Every family in the city must put a word \”福\” on their door. Naturally, no one dares to disobey Queen Ma\’s will. So the word \”福\” was posted on every door. One family among them is illiterate. He actually used the word \”福\”Pasted upside down. The next day, the emperor sent someone to go to the streets to check: they found that every house had a sticker with the character \”福\” on it. Only one family posted the word \”福\” upside down. The emperor was furious after hearing the report. Immediately ordered the imperial guards to kill the entire family. Empress Ma said to Zhu Yuanzhang: That family knows about your visit. I deliberately pasted the word \”福\” upside down. Doesn\’t this mean \’luck arrives\’? The emperor heard it and it made sense. He ordered his release. A catastrophe was finally averted. From then on, people began to paste the word \”福\” upside down: one to seek good luck, and the other to commemorate Queen Ma.

6. Warm reminder

●Friends must remember:

The door is a place to welcome and receive blessings. The word \”福\” should be posted directly.

●The word \”福\” posted on the door must be facing up.

Meaning: The auspicious reputation of opening the door to welcome blessings; like the word \”福\” on the door being posted upside down. But the blessing was left outside the door; it went to someone else\’s house! The big word \”福\” had to be posted along the way. It means good luck will come to your door; otherwise, the word \”blessing\” will be defeated. Blessings are slipping away.

●However, it is suitable to paste the word \”福\” upside down inside the house. Even if \”Fu\” is knocked down at home, it is still in one\’s own home; blessing is also locked up in one\’s own room. The house is full of blessings! Also, the small \”福\” characters posted on the toilet/trash can/wardrobe… must also be pasted upside down; it has the meaning that the small \”福\” will not come until the big \”福\”!

Don’t post the wrong thing again!
